Club soccer at South Bay Force begins at the U9 level for both boys and girls. We know as coaches and parents, that many families have concerns about putting their youngsters in club sports at such an early age. The primary purpose of the Select Teams is to prepare top young players for the club soccer experience and to provide an introduction to club soccer at a reduced level of commitment and cost.
During each Winter Academy session, South Bay Force Youth Academy Select Teams for both GU8 and BU8 age levels will be formed with exceptional young players considering a future in club soccer. Teams will be selected primarily from Youth Academy participants, and will train an additional session each week under the supervision of the Academy Select Team Coaching Staff [1].
The Youth Academy Select Teams will focus on team play, strategy and tactics, and will scrimmage other local club or all-star teams. The Youth Academy Select Teams may also enter one or more tournaments. The Youth Academy Select program will end with the commencement of tryouts for the coming club soccer season, which typically occurs in late February to early March.
Our initial 2007-08 Academy Boys Select team was a tremendous success, with the majority of the Select Team players landing spots on the top two BU9 club teams for the coming season.
[1] There will be an additional modest fee for participation in the Select Team program to cover coaching fees, field, insurance and misc. costs and expenses.
