Carson, CA -- LMU men's soccer opened its 2007 spring schedule by narrowly falling 1-0 to Major League Soccer's Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center on Saturday.
The Lions got outstanding defensive efforts from Miguel Benitez (SOUTH BAY SC) Wilkie Johnson (SOUTH BAY SC) and Adam Sloustcher who helped shut down the Chivas attack and left the scoreline 0-0 at the half.
The break saw a brand new team for Chivas as all eleven players were changed. With 23 minutes remaining, Chivas USA made sure of its 3rd straight win over the Lions when Patrick Sampson was unable to hold onto a close range effort from Matt Taylor and Anthony Hamilton scored at the far post.
After the goal, the Lions were able to apply pressure as Diego Barrera and Nick Blanco were able to combine to create chances in the Chivas defensive end.
The Lions best chance to draw level came from Blayze Hanson (SOUTH BAY SC) who forced a great save from Chivas USA's Brad Guzan in the 83rd minute.

Congratulations to the GU11 team. They finished the summer tournament season by winning the second tournament in a row. The girls defeated JUSA Select (Silver Elite South) 4-1 in the finals of the JUSA tournament. The team had a successful summer and have worked hard to prepare for league.

The South Bay Soccer Club Boys Under-11 team placed 2nd in the JUSA Select Tournament in Yorba Linda over Labor Day Weekend. Playing in 100 degree heat, the players included:
Joseph Baltierra, Carter Belfort, Royce Bullard, Evan Butler, Oscar Chacon, Luke Dam, Riley Dawson, Alex Diaz, Kai Frank, Garrett Greller, Kevin Portillo, Brendan Shinn, Jack Temko and Griffin Thomas.
On August 26th, South Bay SC hosted Stapede SC''s U9''s thru U14''s for a first ever Inter Club Day for both clubs. Shown in the photo together are the Boys Under 13''s coached by South Bay''s Fred Velez and Stampede SC''s Billy Bizzaro.
Disney Labor Day Classic Sept. 2-4th
South Bay Soccer Club has been chosen to be the host soccer club for the 1st Annual Disney Labor Day Classic being played at the Home Depot Center Sept. 2-4th. South Bay Soccer Club teams will play in the event as well as hosting teams from all over the Western United States including Idaho, Northern California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
The GU11 team won all their games beating JUSA Select 95 in the finals 1-0. The girls were also finalists in the Cerritos Memorial Day Challenge. They will wrap up the summer tournament season with the JUSA Kick-off Tournament Labor Day weekend. The team is coached by Nicole Jacobson (Bucciarelli).
